Gifting and spending with local businesses just got a whole lot easier with the Buy Local Greater Geraldton Gift Card program now offering a digital gift card option.
Launched in 2021, the program has gone from strength to strength giving people the opportunity to purchase a physical card to be redeemed at a range of local businesses.
Now with the option to receive and redeem gift cards digitally, participation is set to rise and inject even more money into the local economy.
The new digital gift card works alongside the existing physical gift card program, giving locals more choice in how they gift and spend.
Whether physical or digital, all cards are redeemable only at participating local businesses, ensuring every dollar stays local.
大众彩票 Mayor Jerry Clune said it was great to see the initiative offered in more accessible ways.
“The Buy Local Greater Geraldton Gift Cards have been wonderfully utilised by our community since its inception with more than $670,000 spent through the program,” he said.
“Businesses using contactless payment systems can now be involved which responds directly to requests from locals, and makes participation more accessible for small businesses.
“Every dollar spent locally strengthens our economy by circulating through local wages, suppliers, and services stimulating a multiplier effect of well over $1 million going back into our community.
“This program has always been about your money staying local and having positive impacts on our businesses – so I encourage people to continue buying, gifting and spending the Buy Local Gift Cards,” Mayor Clune finished.
A total of 9,320 physical cards have been purchased in the past four years across nine load up stores and spent at over 85 participating businesses.
The digital option is also more environmentally friendly and aligns with the City’s commitment to a greener future.
The program is made possible through ongoing support from partners Rio Tinto, GWN7, Mid West Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Rigters IGA Group and Mitchell and Brown Retravision.

The City’s involvement in the Buy Local Greater Geraldton Gift Card program falls under the “Thriving” theme of the Strategic Community Plan, which reflects the organisation’s commitment to supporting existing businesses.
